About us · Since 1924
Five generations on Carrer d'Ocata
Our story is the story of our beloved Barcelona: a story of struggle and perseverance, like so many others, of a family that built itself up from nothing. It began on 17 April 1924, and we still open the same door every day.
It began with Josefa Chiquillo, our great-grandmother
Around 1920, widowed and with eight children to raise, at a time when women were barely taken into account, Josefa Chiquillo Chiquillo decided to pledge everything she had. She sold the small family business on Plaça de Palau, a dairy where they also lived, and signed five-year promissory notes. That is where it all began, with “La Posada de la Estrella”.
Four years later, on 17 April 1924, she decided to open the doors to serve the first meals and begin her journey in the restaurant trade. That is why this date will always be our point of reference.

A hundred years in the same house
From Josefa's inn to today's dining room: the story of La Estrella is also the story of the neighbourhood, the port and Estació de França.

In the kitchen and the dining room
The family, the produce that arrives every morning and the dining room ready to welcome you.
Produce from other small families
Five generations on, we still serve food made with produce from the sea and the land, rooted in other families: small families who, like ours, turn their work and effort into the enjoyment of others.
That is why at our table you will find day-boat fish, fresh from what the day's catch has brought; seasonal vegetables from the garden; craft beers from businesses so small they can barely be called businesses; and wines from wineries tucked away in the vast world of wine.
All of it together, with a little love for our trade, is what we offer you in our modest restaurant.
Bon profit. — Jordi, Pepi i Pau

EXCELLENT with capital letters! My husband and I became loyal customers to La Estrella 1924! The care and love is felt from the service team, Anna and Raul, from chef Pepi and chef Pau who are the heart of the restaurant and from Jordi who is the best sommelier and beer pairing counsel but way beyond this he is the soul of the restaurant always bringing the history behind each dish, each beverage and each flavour. Thank you La Estrella 1924 keep up the Excellence!

My wife Anna and I visited La Estrella 1924 following a recommendation from our hotel's front desk, and it turned out to be an unforgettable evening. The food was absolutely delicious: fresh ingredients, perfectly cooked, and full of authentic flavor. Every dish reflected care, quality, and tradition. What truly made the night special, however, was the incredible sense of hospitality. The owner personally welcomed every table, taking the time to share stories about the dishes and the restaurant's long-standing family history. If you're looking for an authentic, heartfelt dining experience in Barcelona, I cannot recommend La Estrella 1924 highly enough.

For those who are looking for the real Catalan cuisine: this is the place to be. Over the years we visited this restaurant in the hands of the same family since 5 (!) generations. We were never disappointed. The dishes are all inspired by the Catalan kitchen but often served with a twist. A tip: take the suggestions, they're mostly excellent. And let yourself be surprised by the wine suggestions: they have a great selection of fine Catalan wines from smaller vineyards in the region. For us this is the place to be in BCN.

La Estrella was a beautiful dining experience. The dining room was filled with energy and warmth. Our service was fun and they explained each option with loving care. We ordered a large variety of dishes both on the menu and off and each plate was wonderful and imaginative. All were fun and interesting and perfectly prepared.
