The menu

There are no star dishes here: every dish is one.

The house's long-standing recipes and dishes that went from daily special to permanent favourite, cooked with day-boat fish and garden produce from the market. And a set menu that changes with the seasons.

Homemade desserts

There is no written dessert menu: they are made in-house, change with each season's fruit and are explained at the table. A few that have passed through our kitchen:

  • Baked cheesecake with its own jam
  • Homemade chestnut tiramisu
  • Apple tatin
  • Vanilla ice cream with hot chocolate sauce

Wine cellar

Small family wineries with excellent value for money. Cava, champagne, ancestral-method wines, unusual beers and our house vermouth, rested in new French oak barrels.

5a generació, 100 anys: fifth generation and one hundred years of La Estrella Hand-drawn illustration of the façade of La Estrella 1924 restaurant at Carrer d'Ocata 6, El Born, Barcelona

Since 17 April 1924

The same door at number 6, Carrer d'Ocata, has been opening for more than a hundred years to feed and restore whoever walks in. The way we do things changes; the spirit stays the same.

  1. 1924Josefa Chiquillo opens La Estrella to serve meals in El Born.
  2. 2024The house turns one hundred, still run by the family.
  3. TodayJordi and Pepi still run the house, and Pau, the fifth generation, is already in the kitchen.

Five generations in the same house

Today we try to do the same, changing the way we see and do things but with the same spirit: that you leave happy with what you have eaten and drunk, and that you think about coming back.

Our specialities? The truth is we cook everything the same way, the only way we know: with care and enthusiasm.

Jordi, Pepi i Pau

Frequently asked questions

What you ask us most. If you can't find your answer, call us on 93 310 27 68 or write to contacto@rstlaestrella.com.

Do I need to book?

We recommend it, especially for dinner and at weekends. You can request a table with our pre-booking form: it is not confirmed automatically; we check availability and confirm it by email.

Can I book for today?

Yes. For same-day tables the quickest way is to call us on 93 310 27 68. The form works too, but your table is not booked until we confirm it by email.

How do I change or cancel a booking?

Call us on 93 310 27 68 as soon as you know. That way we can offer the table to someone else: we are a small restaurant and every table counts.

Do you take groups?

Yes, up to 30 people. For groups of more than 8, get in touch with us by email at contacto@rstlaestrella.com and we will arrange it together.

What are your opening hours?

We are open Tuesday to Saturday, 13:30–15:30 and 20:30–22:30. We are closed on Sundays, on Mondays, on public holidays and in August. When a closure is coming up, you will see a notice at the top of this website.

Where are you?

We are at Carrer d'Ocata, 6, 08003 Barcelona, in El Born, next to Estació de França and a few minutes' walk from Barceloneta metro station (L4). How to get here.

What kind of food do you serve?

Catalan, home-style and creative cooking: the house's long-standing recipes, made with seasonal, locally sourced produce, day-boat fish and garden vegetables, depending on what the market offers. You can see the full menu.

Do you have a set menu as well as the à la carte menu?

Yes, a seasonal menu that changes with the market. It is served for the whole table and you can see it alongside the menu.

Are there dishes that are not on the menu?

Yes. Every day there are specials depending on what we find at the market, and we explain them at your table. The same goes for desserts: there is no written dessert menu; they are made in-house and change with the season.

I have allergies or intolerances. Can you take them into account?

Let us know when you book: tick "Yes" for allergies on the form and tell us about them in the message. That way we can talk it over with the kitchen before you arrive.

How do gift vouchers work?

There are two options. Open voucher: you pay a deposit and, if the meal costs more, you pay the difference afterwards. Closed voucher: if the meal costs more than the voucher, your guests pay the difference at the table. Both are valid for three months. Request yours.

How long has La Estrella been open?

Since 17 April 1924, always at number 6, Carrer d'Ocata, and with the same family at the helm: we are now on the fifth generation. Our story.

Uno de mis restaurantes favoritos. No defrauda.

EXCELLENT with capital letters! My husband and I became loyal customers to La Estrella 1924! The care and love is felt from the service team, Anna and Raul, from chef Pepi and chef Pau who are the heart of the restaurant and from Jordi who is the best sommelier and beer pairing counsel but way beyond this he is the soul of the restaurant always bringing the history behind each dish, each beverage and each flavour. Thank you La Estrella 1924 keep up the Excellence!

My wife Anna and I visited La Estrella 1924 following a recommendation from our hotel's front desk, and it turned out to be an unforgettable evening. The food was absolutely delicious: fresh ingredients, perfectly cooked, and full of authentic flavor. Every dish reflected care, quality, and tradition. What truly made the night special, however, was the incredible sense of hospitality. The owner personally welcomed every table, taking the time to share stories about the dishes and the restaurant's long-standing family history. If you're looking for an authentic, heartfelt dining experience in Barcelona, I cannot recommend La Estrella 1924 highly enough.

For those who are looking for the real Catalan cuisine: this is the place to be. Over the years we visited this restaurant in the hands of the same family since 5 (!) generations. We were never disappointed. The dishes are all inspired by the Catalan kitchen but often served with a twist. A tip: take the suggestions, they're mostly excellent. And let yourself be surprised by the wine suggestions: they have a great selection of fine Catalan wines from smaller vineyards in the region. For us this is the place to be in BCN.

We ordered a large variety of dishes both on the menu and off and each plate was wonderful and imaginative. All were fun and interesting and perfectly prepared.
